What should I use to tile around a drop-in bathtub?

So many options. I would like to tile around my drop in tub which sits on a 2x4 support. Do I need to waterproof or use some membrane around the tub prior to tile? Or is durock any profit?

use durarock or hardiboard on top of plywood and tile under the lip of the tub for a cleaner look and less fastidious tile cuts. I hope this helps. Good success rate with your project
